WEEK 4 – TEAM OF THE WEEK

University of Arkansas

Jackin’ 3s

Jackin’ 3’s has been described as “goofy” but they are very serious about one thing…having fun while they play! They exemplify what the Champion Team of the Week award is all about—teamwork, sportsmanship and having a good time.

Jackin’ 3’s have been playing together for four years after meeting at Wilson Park during the Midnight League Tournament. They chose their name to strike fear in the hearts of their opponents. What other teams may not realize is that their name is really because they can’t seem to get the ball any closer to the hoop! One of their most memorable games was when JT was messing around and threw up a 3-pointer “granny” style to start the comeback in a come from behind victory. Did we mention that these guys like to have fun on the court?! Well done!

WEEK 3 – TEAM OF THE WEEK

Texas A&M

Red Hots

The Red Hots are a determined team. A great example of this was a game they began with only 3 players! Being so short handed caused they to fall behind by more than 15 points. Eventually, more players showed up during the game and they finally had a full team by halftime. During the second half, they caught up, tied the game, and eventually won the game in overtime. Throughout the game, they kept their composure and were supportive of each other, even though they were playing with fewer players and facing a deficit. It is because of this determination, poise and great attitude that they were selected as the Champion Team of the Week.

The Red Hots are a Chi Omega team. Last year they discovered there was a group of them that had all played basketball in high school, so they formed a team. They have found a wonderful balance of having fun, being supportive while also being competitive. In their words, “We are incredibly blessed to have such a supporting team. I think that is what keeps us unique and different than other teams. You might think we are girly because we are in a sorority, but that doesn’t stop us. We use that as a motivation and determination to beat other teams. “

WEEK 2 – TEAM OF THE WEEK

Georgetown University

Henle Hustlers

The Henle Hustlers make a point of always wearing black to their games but they aren’t the bad guys. In fact, they were selected as our Champion Team of the Week because they have been good sports and active participants in the Georgetown rec program for at least 3 years and some of them 4 years. They also realize that it is recreation, not intercollegiate sports.

They chose their name because they all live in Henle Village, an on campus apartment complex. They also chose it because in their words “alliteration is awesome.” The other thing that was “awesome” was the game that Doug Bond played his pants off…literally. Their most memorable game was their first playoff basketball game—they won with only four players…or maybe we should say they flourished with only four on the floor.

WEEK 1 – TEAM OF THE WEEK

University of Connecticut

No Ceilings

No Ceilings likes to keep it simple. They chose their name because they believe the sky is the limit with their potential on this team. They only have one ritual—show up on time! This allows them to warm up and practice as a team. It all seems to be working for them! They are our Champion Team of the Week for their overall good sportsmanship and offensive domination. They run a balanced offense scoring from all spots on the floor.

No Ceilings met their freshmen year when they all lived on the same floor. They are a very disciplined team, made more so by their team captain, who is also a ref! He keeps them in check and also helps them understand the rules so they can play good defense and take a charge when they need to! They said their most memorable game so far is the one they lost after they were named the Champion Team of the Week. They said they “let the hoodies get to us.”  They are now re-focused and ready to take it to the finals!
