Team of the Week Spotlight

Kappa Alpha Psi

The Champion Team of the Week is Kappa Alpha Psi. This group of fraternity brothers only joined up on the court for one year, but they already got it together--in their own words, “We Ballin Boi.” They may not have much experience playing together but they are no push over on the court. Kappa Alpha Psi is competitive on the court without losing their sense of fun. They make sure they maintain their composure, exhibiting a level of sportsmanship that should be modeled by all teams.

Rusty’s Radical Rebounders

Rusty’s Radical Rebounders have been together for 3 years and their name comes from the favorite word of their mascot…Rad Randy. This group is one of many dimensions&mdashnot only do they play very well on the court, but they are also members of a trumpet and trombone ensemble and in their own words, they are “really good…I mean REALLY good.” One other dimension is their personal team quote, “14 ¾" ” You’ll have to ask them what that’s all about… These guys are our Champion Team of the Week because they represent the foundation of what the Team of the Week is all about: Playing hard while maintaining an attitude that other teams should hope to achieve.

AASU LADY PANTHERS

The AASU (African American Student Association) Lady Panthers are Champion’s Team of the Week. Even though it’s their first year playing together, this team knows how to win. Several of the girls have won school championships (on their way to another one this year!) and even still some are semi finalists at the state tournament. Playing hard is never a problem for these girls. Also, these ladies are great models of sportsmanship. Their team motto is, ”Girls Get’em Right; Can’t Nobody do it like we do, watch out when we come through.“

THE MONSTARS

The Monstars are Champion’s Team of the Week because they have exhibited great sportsmanship and have been a pleasure to officiate as well as play against. Effort is never a problem with this team as they constantly play hard no matter the score. Their team name was inspired by Space Jam the Movie—and you may not be surprised to find this group watching it over and over and over…it’s their favorite. They have been a team for 2 years and their motto is ”Hit ’em high, Hit ’em low.“ We know what’s not low is their enthusiasm for the game—way to go guys!

TENACIOUS D

This team named itself Tenacious D, inspired by the movie of the same name…but you should see their O, as in offense! They once scored 100 points in 30 minutes—by accident!

When asked how long this team has been together they answer—Forever! And apparently that is long enough to win 2 championships. They may chant D-on-3 when they come out of the huddle, but the other 3 they could be headed for is their 3rd championship!
